FM Liberman: UN ‘Waits for Israel to Do Its Job’ by Not Adhering to Own Principles

Israel’s Foreign Minister slams UN’s moral hypocrisy, says the int’l body should be fighting Hamas’ terror attacks instead of waiting for Israel to do so, then condemn them.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) issued sharp criticism against the United Nations on Wednesday, after Secretary General Ban Ki Moon accused Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza.

Liberman said that before criticizing Israel for unintentional damage to UN facilities during a self-defense operation, UN leaders should ensure that UN facilities will not serve the prime purpose of storing and launching missiles at Israeli civilians – and for incitement, which is strengthening and encouraging terrorism.

Liberman added that if the UN was doing its job properly – and adhering to the principles for which it was established – the organization itself would be working against Hamas and other terror organizations instead of waiting for Israel to do so.

The Foreign Minister’s comments surface just hours after another anti-Israel tirade from the UN Secretary General, which was met by harsh criticism from Israeli Ambassador to the UN, Ron Prosor.

“If the UN assembly had invested a tenth of the energy invested in investigating Israel, it would reveal horrific war crimes on the part of Hamas,” Prosor fired.

“The international community has lost its way,” he continued. “This organization was founded to promote morality, truth and justice. Unfortunately, that is not its mission now.”
