PLO official accuses Israel of ‘war crimes’ over Jerusalem neighborhood construction

The Jerusalem neighborhood, with some 20,000 residents, separates Israeli Arab neighborhoods of the Jewish capital from the nearby Palestinian controlled area of Bethlehem.

PLO Executive Committee member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi accused Israel of war crimes after the Jerusalem Municipality issued a construction permit for 143 apartment units in the Jewish neighborhood of Har Homa located over the pre-1967 lines on Monday.

“This latest development is an additional war crime as stipulated by the Rome Statute, and the occupation authorities will be held accountable by the International Criminal Court and other venues for its continued aggression on the lands and resources of the state of Palestine,” Ashrawi said. Israel approved 184 new homes for Jerusalem neighborhoods

 

Additional permits for new Har Homa & Pisgat Zeev homes causes serious distress among Palestinian negotiators involved in talks.

The Jerusalem municipality approved building plans on Wednesday for 184 new homes in two Jewish settlements in the West Bank, drawing anger from Palestinians engaged in faltering statehood talks.

A municipality spokeswoman said the local planning committee had approved requests by private contractors who purchased the land years ago for the construction of 144 homes in Har Homa and 40 dwellings in Pisgat Zeev. Continue Reading »
