Israeli fighter jets early on Saturday bombed four Hamas weapon factories and storage facilities in Gaza Strip in retaliation to earlier rocket fire at a southern Israeli town, the military spokesperson confirmed.

No reports of damage or casualties were available.

A rocket fired from the Hamas-controlled encalve exploded on a street in Sderot on Friday, the Israeli military and a local official said, after earlier rockets fired from the Strip elicited an Israeli air and artillery bombardment of the coastal territory.

The rocket caused damaged to cars but no injuries, according to a community spokesman.

Earlier, in response to at least two projectiles fired at Israel from the Gaza Strip earlier Friday, Israel targeted a Hamas training compound and an ammunition warehouse in the Strip, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

At least 15 Palestinians were injured in the Gaza attacks, according to a spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Local reports suggested a six month-old baby was critically injured.

Palestinian news agency Maan reported that the strike hit a Hamas base near the residential Sheikh Zayed Towers, near the Jabalya refugee camp.

Eyewitnesses were also quoted as saying that the Israeli artillery shelled a “resistance site” east of the town of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza.

Earlier Friday evening, two rockets were fired toward Israel from Gaza, the Israeli military said, later confirming that one was intercepted over the southern town of Sderot.

Shortly afterwards, the army said it had identified a second launch from the Hamas-controlled enclave, but had not yet identified where it landed.

The IDF added that it “holds Hamas solely responsible for all hostile acts against Israel emanating from Gaza Strip.”

There are several militant groups active in the Strip, some of whom also have the ability to fire projectiles at Israel.

After the first launch, an i24NEWS correspondent saw an explosion in the sky over the town of Sderot, with the IDF later confirming it had shot the rocket out of the sky.

Earlier Friday one Palestinian was killed in clashes with Israeli forces along the Gaza-Israel border, the health ministry in the Strip said.

More to come.
