Islamic Jihad released pictures on Thursday of the new rocket with a heavy warhead, which they announced had been fired toward Ashkelon during the escalation of violence earlier this week.
The IDF has been concerned about heavy mortars which could carry 150-200 kilogram warheads, and which would inflict heavy damage on the Israeli home front. IDF locates remnant of rocket fired from Gaza early Sunday morning in an open field, having presumed earlier it had exploded mid-air.
The Israeli army announced on Sunday afternoon that a rocket fired from Gaza in the early hours of the morning, had not exploded in mid-air as previously thought, but in fact landed in an open field inside Israel. No injuries or damage were reported.
