Comedian Joan Rivers, staunch supporter of Israel dies at age 81

On Aug. 28, Joan Rivers was undergoing surgery on her vocal cords at a clinic in New York City when she stopped breathing and had to be rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Joan Alexandra Molinsky – known by her stage name Joan Rivers – born in Brooklyn, New York in 1933, the daughter of Russian Jewish immigrants Beatrice Grushman and Meyer C. Molinsky has died at the age of 81.

The comedian Joan Rivers died on Thursday in New York a week after suffering cardiac arrest during an outpatient medical procedure, her daughter said in a statement. She was 81.

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends,” Melissa Rivers said.
