Israeli Foreign Ministry: Iran’s announcement to pay $7,000 rewards to Palestinian terrorists’ families, and another $30,000 whose homes were demolished for butchering Jews, “demonstrates again Iran’s role in encouraging terror.” 

Iran will offer monetary rewards to the families of Palestinian terrorists killed while attacking Israelis or whose homes have been demolished by Israel, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon said on Wednesday.

“The decision firstly includes giving an amount worth $7,000 to every family of a martyr of the intifada in Jerusalem,” Ambassador Mohammad Fathali said at a Beirut news conference.

Iran would also offer “$30,000 to every family whose home the occupation [Israel] has demolished for the participation of one of its sons” in the violence, he said.

Recent months have been characterized by a wave of Palestinian stabbing, shooting and car ramming attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers.

A senior Hamas official in Gaza confirmed that the decision to offer the rewards was reached a few weeks ago at a meeting in Tehran attended by Hamas representatives and Iranian officials working under Gen. Qassem Suleimani, who is responsible for Iran’s policy in the Middle East.

The Palestinian Authority said it was not involved in coordinating the move.

Israel condemned Iran’s announcement. A Foreign Ministry statement said it “demonstrates again Iran’s role in encouraging terror,” adding that “following the nuclear agreement, Iran continues to be a major player in international terror.”

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon noted that Iran now has extra money as sanctions have been lifted.
