Israeli Christians Urged to Vote in March Elections

 

A leading Christian figure, Shadi Khalloul, has even become a candidate for the Knesset with Yisrael Beiteinu, a top right-wing Zionist party.

Christian leaders in the Holy Land are urging their constituents to get involved in Israel’s upcoming national elections. And the call is being answered, with some going so far as to become candidates for Knesset themselves.

The Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land under Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem Fouad Twal issued a statement this week encouraging local Christians to help improve the situation and make a positive impact on the Middle East conflict by exercising their right to vote in Israel. Anti-Israel Arab lawmaker & Jewish extremist barred from running in election

Israel’s Central Election Commission has banned both Palestinian Arab Hanin Zoabi and Jewish activist Baruch Marzel from the 2015 Israeli elections.

Israel’s Central Election Commission on Thursday has barred controversial Arab Israeli lawmaker Haneen Zoabi from running to the Knesset in the upcoming general election, following petitions filed by the rightist Likud and Israel Beitenu parties.

Far-right activist Baruch Marzel, one of the leaders of the outlawed Kach movement, was too barred from participating in the March 17 election.

In the summer Zoabi, a member of the Balad party, was banned from the Knesset plenum for six months after she made comments saying that the kidnappers who murdered three Israeli teens were “not terrorists.” Continue Reading »

Former US Secretary of State James Baker said Sunday that House Speaker John Boehner’s invitation to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to address Congress, which was extended without consulting the White House, is a breach of diplomatic protocol.
