Israel’s ever-challenging diplomatic conundrum

Having the U.S. to impose a solution will be completely self-defeating as it hardens the Palestinian readiness to come to the negotiating table, since Israel will be delivered on a silver platter anyway, and makes any real diplomatic progress more difficult than ever.

Negotiator Erekat refuses to repeat lunacy of peace talks

The Palestinian Authority reiterated Sunday its refusal to return to the negotiating table unless Israel stopped settlement construction and released Palestinian prisoners.

ErekatIn response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s call for reviving stalled peace talks with the PA, chief PLO negotiator Saeb Erekat said that the Palestinians were not setting conditions for returning to the negotiating table.

“These are not Palestinian conditions, but obligations that Israel is required to fulfill,” Erekat said.

Polls: Palestinians prefer violence and majority support Hamas

Two new public opinion polls reveal that in the wake of the recent Gaza war, Palestinians are even more in favor of violence against Israel, and would hand Hamas the reins of the Palestinian Authority if elections were held today.

A poll conducted by the Ramallah-based Arab World for Research & Development found that an overwhelming 87.7 percent of Palestinian Arabs either agree or strongly agree that “armed struggle, as adopted by Hamas, is the best means of achieving Palestinian independence.” Continue Reading »
