Yair Lapid, the big winner in Tuesday’s national elections, delivered an emotional speech at Yesh Atid’s party headquarters after midnight. “A heavy responsibility has been placed on our shoulders tonight. Throughout the entire election campaign I was told again and again ‘Don’t forget us when you get there, don’t be like all those who get elected and forget.’ I won’t.”

According to exit polls released by the three major television networks, the centrist Yesh Atid party won 19 Knesset seats in the elections and will be the second largest party in the Knesset. Continue Reading »

Yesh Atid Party’s Chief: All I Want, is to be Rid of the Arabs

Chairman of Yesh Atid says Arabs don’t want peace. All Lapid wants is a tall fence between us and them.

Yair Lapid, the head of the Yesh Atid party, explained Sunday that he has no expectations from negotiations with the Arabs.

“I do not think that the Arabs want peace,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Lapid said that he does not care what the Arabs want. “What I want is not a new Middle East, but to be rid of them and put a tall fence between us and them.” The important thing, he added, is “to maintain a Jewish majority in the Land of Israel.” Continue Reading »

When will the elections take place?

The government will determine the exact date for the election. Netanyahu began consultations on Tuesday with the leaders of the various parties and has already discussed the issue with the leaders of the opposition, including Shelly Yacimovich (Labor) and Zahava Gal-On (Meretz), with the hope of finding an agreed date.
