Woman: Maternity ward doctor called me ‘fat’

Woman who gave birth at Sheba Medical Center says anesthesiologist humiliated her ‘on what was supposed to be the most exciting day of my life’

A 30-year-old woman has claimed that an anesthesiologist at the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv called her “appalling and fat” and urged her to “do something” with herself.

The Yedioth Ahronoth daily reported Sunday that the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, was ridiculed by a physician shortly after being admitted to the medical center’s maternity ward about five months ago.

The woman recently wrote on the hospital’s Facebook page that the nurses had told her that the doctor was having a “bad day.”

“Imagine how you’d feel if after 16 hours of painful and sweaty labor – in one of the most intimate moments you’ve ever experienced – an anesthesiologist would begin criticizing your appearance, make fun of your exposed body and humiliate you on what is supposed to be one of the most exciting days of your life,” she wrote.

The woman said the hospital sent her an email in which it promised that her complaint would be looked into. However, the woman said, the hospital mistakenly attached another email she wasn’t meant to see: “The message said I should be taken off the network and transferred to customer support.”

Her complaint was removed from the hospital’s Facebook page shortly thereafter, but not before dozens of women had read her message and responded with shock.

Sheba said that upon receiving the complaint its director ordered officials to immediately contact the woman who gave birth at the hospital and promise her that her complaint would be investigated. The hospital said the physician would be disciplined if the complaint is verified.
