2 IDF soldiers killed in ambush by Hamas tunnel infiltrators

Sgt. Adar Barsano, 20, of Nahariya and Maj. Amotz Greenberg, 45, of Hod HaSharon were killed and two other soldiers were injured, when Hamas terrorists entered Israel through a smuggling tunnel.

 

Two soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed when they engaged a Hamas terrorist squad that entered Israel through a smuggling tunnel from the central Gaza Strip Saturday morning.

The two soldiers were named as Sgt. Adar Barsano, 20, of Nahariya and Maj. Amotz Greenberg, 45, of Hod HaSharon.

The incident occurred in Eshkol. The terrorists were headed towards an Israeli community, and encountered an IDF patrol. An exchange of fire ensued.

Two other soldiers were moderately injured and taken to hospital. One of the soldiers who was killed was shot dead in the gun battle.

The IAF struck members of the cell after they escaped back into Gaza.

The IDF said an attempt to murder Israeli civilians was thwarted.

Since midnight, two IDF officers have been seriously injured, three officers and one soldier were moderately injured, and an officer and five soldiers were lightly wounded during military action in the Gaza Strip.
