Despite prior cancellations, Lady Gaga will perform in Tel Aviv as planned

Announcement of Lady Gaga to perform on September 13, comes after a number of artists canceled shows due to IDF’s Operation Protective Edge.

Lady Gaga will appear in Israel as scheduled, on September 13, one of the producers of her show affirmed on Sunday.

The announcement comes as a number of artists have canceled or postponed their shows because of the rocket attacks that accompanied Israel’s conflict with Hamas in Gaza.

Tickets for Lady Gaga’s show, set for Tel Aviv’s Hayarkon Park, went on sale in June. A seat on the grass will cost 370 shekels, about $103, while the top ticket near the stage is 1,450 shekels, about four times those figures.

The producer Udi Appleboim said he’s expecting tens of thousands of fans to show up for the pop singer’s second show in Israel. The 28-year-old singer, who was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, first appeared in the country in 2009.
Politics and music make for a volatile mix in Israel. Neil Young, America, the Backstreet Boys, Lana Del Rey and others have canceled shows here due to the country’s Operation Protective Edge effort in Gaza. Paul Anka rescheduled his shows from late July to mid-October.

And local artists are also affected. Late last month, the Israeli singer-songwriter Rona Kenan canceled a show in Haifa after her life was threatened. Right-wing protesters claimed that at an event in 2012, she’d expressed sympathy for Palestinian martyrs. She denied the claim.
