Hamas has introduced its own textbooks into schools in the Gaza Strip this fall, as part of an effort to spread its militant ideology among Palestinian youth, The New York Times reported on Sunday.

According to the report, the books do not recognize modern Israel, or mention the Oslo Accords that Israel signed with the Palestine Liberation Organization in the early 1990s.
Schools in Gaza previously used a curriculum approved by the Palestinian Authority.
The new Hamas textbooks characterize the Torah and Talmud as “fabricated,” and describe Zionism as a racist movement whose goals include driving Arabs out of all of the area between the Nile River in Africa and the Euphrates River in Iraq, Syria and Turkey.
Palestine, meanwhile, is presented as a state for Muslims encompassing the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.
“The Jews and the Zionist movement are not related to Israel, because the sons of Israel are a nation which had been annihilated,” the books say, in an attempt to refute Jewish historical claims to the land of Israel.
The books also distort recent history. Talking about Israel’s military operation against Hamas in November 2012, the books claim that rockets fired from Gaza “sent 3 million Zionists underground for eight days” (a lower number of Israelis went into shelters sporadically over the course of the operation), that Tel Aviv was hit (rockets were fired at Tel Aviv, but none actually hit the city) and that an attempted rocket strike on the Knesset building in Jerusalem “forced the Zionists to beg for cease-fire.”
