A prisoner serving two life sentences for murder has recently petitioned the state attorney asking for a pardon for himself and another prisoner in return for information on the location of the body of missing IDF soldier Guy Hever, his attorney said Monday.

The prisoner’s attorney complained that the state attorney is being too slow in responding to the petition. “If the body found is not Guy Hever’s body, then the prisoner would ask nothing in return,” attorney Zion Shimon said.

The prisoner in question was arrested for murder charges a short while after Guy Hever disappeared in 1997. His arrest has no connection with the soldier’s disappearance.

His attorney refused to say how his client obtained the information about Hever.

“This is not a new proposal. This petition has been filed a lot time ago. But the state attorney is stalling. We’ve been trying to get an answer for almost two weeks,” Shimon said.

Shimon claims the state attorney has already offered the prisoner a proposal that he turned down, and he insists on an immediate release of both himself and another prisoner.

The Justice Minister said in response that “due to the state’s obligation to find and bring back missing IDF soldiers, there were initial talks between the state and the prisoner’s attorneys in order to examine the nature of the information he claims to have. These talks did not come to fruition, both due to reasons that have to do with the prisoner and due to the nature of the information.”
