According to the report, which has not been corroborated by any official Egyptian source, the suspects were part of an espionage ring operating in Cairo, Alexandria and other major Egyptian cities.
A source close to the investigation who was quoted by the Kuwaiti newspaper said that the suspects had a “direct relationship with the Mossad.”
The report noted that Cairo’s authorities have imposed a comprehensive gag order on the case, as some of the suspects are believed to be foreign diplomats who used their diplomatic immunity to gather intelligence on “sensitive facilities in Egypt.”
