Former Canadian Justice Minister Calls for Recognition of Jewish Refugees

Irwin Cotler, a Canadian lawmaker has proposed a motion calling for formal gov’t recognition of Jewish refugees exiled from Arab countries since 1948.

A Canadian lawmaker has proposed a motion in the country’s Parliament calling for formal government recognition of some 850,000 Jews forcibly displaced from Arab lands since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948.

Irwin Cotler, a former Canadian justice minister, noted in his motion that by rejecting the United Nation’s partition plan of 1947-1948, Arab states had “launched their double aggression of a war against the nascent Jewish state and assaults on their own Jewish nationals, resulting in two refugee populations, Palestinian refugees and Jewish refugees from Arab countries.” Continue Reading »

Israel, the U.S. & Canada calls for removal of anti-Israel UN official Richard Falk

UN rapporteur and anti-Zionist alleges that companies dealing with settlers are in violation of int’l human rights laws.

Canada joined the United States and Israel late Thursday night in calling for the resignation of a United Nations official charged with monitoring and reporting on human rights in the Palestinian territories.

That official, Richard Falk, the UN’s special rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories, called for a worldwide boycott earlier Thursday of companies tied to Jewish settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

That recommendation was immediately condemned by the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, who called Falk’s call to action “irresponsible and unacceptable,” and said it would “poison the environment for peace.” Continue Reading »

Canada Church Regrets Previously Asking Arabs to Recognize Israel as Jewish State

The United Church of Canada (UCC) decided to boycott Israeli products exported from communities in Judea & Samaria.

The United Church of Canada (UCC) has voted to boycott products exported by Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria.

The vote was one of thirteen resolutions, which single out “Israeli settlements” as the primary obstacle to peace in the region, that the UCC adopted on Friday at its 41st general council meeting in Ottawa.

The UCC also called on Israel to suspend “settlement” expansion, and express regret for previously asking the “Palestinians” to acknowledge Israel as a Jewish state. Continue Reading »

Canada looking to expand role in Middle East peace talks

The United States has long been a major player in attempts to broker Middle East peace, but now Washington’s neighbor to the north is reportedly looking to get into the game.

Ten days after President Shimon Peres’s state visit to Canada, the president of the World Jewish Congress said he expects Canada to take on a new role in MIddle East peace talks.

Both Peres and Ronald Lauder were quoted in Canadian media reports as seeing Canada acting as a go-between. ”I believe that in the coming months, Canada can play a role and I think will be invited to play a role,” Lauder said in an interview with The Canadian Press. Continue Reading »

Israeli women join ‘Slutwalk’ protest movement

Movement started in Canada in response to policeman’s comment that to avoid being attacked women shouldn’t dress like sluts.

Less than a year after a group of Canadian women held the Slutwalk protest in response to a policeman’s comment that if women want to avoid being attacked they should not dress like sluts, Israel is poised to follow suit with its first Mitzad Sharmuta (Slutwalk) next week.

“The problem here is that rape is often seen as being the fault of the woman and during court cases or investigations there is always reference to how many partners she might have had in the past or how she was dressed, but that is just not relevant,” Ya’ara Liebermann-Callif, one of the women involved in organizing next Friday’s Slutwalk in Tel Aviv, told The Jerusalem Post in an interview Thursday.
