Gaza-bound ship ‘Estelle’ boarded by Israeli Navy

Israel’s Navy seizes ship carrying 30 pro-Palestinian activists, from breaking blockade of Gaza.

The Israeli navy boarded the Gaza-bound “Estelle” ship seeking to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza, an army spokesperson confirmed at 11:40 am on Saturday.

The army said the soldiers seized control of the ship, which is carrying pro-Palestinian activists, in accordance with the government’s decision and international law, diplomatic efforts to prevent the vessel from reaching Gaza’s shore had failed.

“When the passengers made it clear that they would not cooperate or accept the invitation to sail to southern port of Ashdod, it was decided to seize the vessel and rerouted to the Ashdod,” the army said in a statement. Continue Reading »

Fifty international aid groups and U.N. agencies issued a joint appeal on Thursday calling on Israel to lift its blockade of the Gaza Strip. On the same day, an Israeli farmer was wounded by sniper fire from Gaza.

Palestinian Airlines renews operations

Seven years after being grounded by Israeli offensive, airline is back in business with weekly flight to Amman

 

Seven years after grounding is planes, Palestinian Airlines was back in business on Wednesday, with an inaugural flight that travelled between the Egyptian town of Arish and Jordan’s capital, Amman.

The renewal of the air carrier’s business was facilitated by an agreement reached between the Palestinian Transportation Ministry and the authorities in Egypt and Jordan.

The company was founded in 1995, and operated flights that shuttled travelers between the Dahania Airport in Rafah and various destinations in the Middle East and North Africa. Continue Reading »
