With oil supplies around the world  fast depleting, researchers around the world have been trying to find an alternative that could sustain the energy needs of mankind. A team at Israel’s Ben Gurion University may have come up with an alternative fuel, made from water and carbon dioxide.

Unlike other fuel alternatives available today, the “green feed” created at BGU has a significant advantage: it can be turned into fuel using existing oil refining methods and delivered to gas stations using existing infrastructure. Continue Reading »

New Israeli research project to turn sewage-algae into biofuel

 

Funded by the Environmental Protection Ministry, the project is testing the possibility of using micro-algae, which grows in sewage, to produce bio-diesel.

A new Israeli research project could lead to the production of a new source of cheap and eco-friendly biological fuel using micro-algae.

The new project, headed by Dr. Marina Nisnevich from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at Ariel University and Dr. Yakov Anker of the Samaria and Jordan Rift Regional Center for Research and Development, is testing the possibility of using micro-algae, which grows in sewage, to produce bio-diesel, a type of biological fuel made out of plant oil. Sderot introduces their first urban solar field in Migvan

Members of Migvan urban kibbutz, located in the southern Israeli city of Sderot, have decided to invest in a unique crop – solar energy.

The commune’s houses are covered with solar panels, making them the location of Israel‘s first urban solar field, which produces electricity for its residents.

Migvan was formed in 1987 and is currently home to 50 people.

The urban kibbutz adopted environmentally friendly principles from its inception, and has a large recycling center and a compost recycling facility, as well. Continue Reading »

The campaign is the joint initiative of the Prime Minister’s Office National Information Directorate, the Environmental Protection Ministry and the Foreign Ministry. This is the first time that the State of Israel has launched an international campaign of this kind.
