Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu plans to draft 60% of Haredim up to age 24

Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu proposal submitted to  Habayit Hayehudi & Yesh Atid as part of coalition negotiations.

Prof. Eugene Kandel on Saturday publicly presented the main points of his proposal for distributing the burden of military service more equally. The proposal was submitted last week to Yesh Atid and Habayit Hayehudi by Likud-Yisrael Beiteinu during the latter’s coalition negotiations with the two parties.

The program calls for drafting more than 60 percent of ultra-Orthodox men up to the age of 24, while offering government incentives to these conscripts and the yeshivas from which they they were drafted. Continue Reading »

Bennett: “It’s not ethical and it’s not sustainable” for Haredim to not work & study or serve

Bayit Yehudi leader says Israeli economy cannot withstand situation in which Haredim don’t study and work or serve. In NY they study & work, why not here?

 

Bayit Yehudi leader Naftali Bennett issued a declaration of intent on Tuesday morning regarding his party’s perspective and intentions for haredi national service enlistment.

“The current situation in which thousands of haredim do not study, serve or work cannot continue,” the Bayit Yehudi chairman wrote on his official Facebook page.

“It’s not ethical and it’s not sustainable and the Israeli economy cannot withstand it,” Bennett continued, insisting, however, that “haredim are our brothers” and that he merely desired their integration into Israeli society.

In August the I.D.F. is to Draft 3000 Haredim

IDF’s manpower unit finishes sorting haredi youths for their draft in 2013. ‘Army invested a lot in their enlistment,’ reports Major General Barbivai, the unit’s commander.

Some 3000 haredi youths have been presented with draft notices and are set to be enlisted for military service in August 2013, said Major General Orna Barbivai, commander of the IDF Manpower Directorate, on Thursday.

The IDF successfully finished sorting the 3000 youths, who were born on 1994 and 1995. Following the Tal Law‘s expiration, the IDF will draft for the first time thousands of haredim in accordance with the mandatory army service law. Continue Reading »
