Strained ties with Turkey hurt Israeli defense contract with U.S. firm

Boeing apparently weighing other suppliers after Israel’s Elta ordered by Defense Ministry to hold components to be fitted in AWACS planes purchased by Turkey.

 

An Israeli refusal to supply components to be fitted in an airborne early warning and control (AWACS) craft purchased by the Turkish military is straining ties between Israeli defense suppliers and American giant aerospace Boeing, Defense News reported on Thursday.

According to the report, the Defense Ministry ordered Elta, the firm contracted to supply the components, to hold two shipments over Israel’s reluctance to see Israeli-made security equipment being used by Turkey.

Turks outraged by Israel’s travel advisory

Turkish elements claim Israeli decision to warn tourists against visiting Turkey motivated by desire for revenge over Erdogan statements

Heightened tensions: Turkish elements expressed outrage over Israel’s travel advisory to Turkey issued by the Counter Terrorism Bureau on Tuesday, Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Thursday. The Turks claim that the warning is based on “vengeful political considerations aiming to portray Turkey as failing to  protect Jews and Israelis.”

The region is home to several bases used by Kurdish separatists from the PKK that Ankara regards as terrorists – and frequently targets with its military.

Erdogan: Israel committing massacre in Gaza

Turkish prime minister resumes tough rhetoric against Israel claiming it failed to annihilate Strip by withholding food, medications and therefore now trying to subdue it with airstrikes

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan harshly slammed Israel on Tuesday claiming it is committing a massacre in Palestine in the backdrop of the recent flare-up on the Gaza border area.

Speaking at the Turkish parliament, Erdogan described Gaza as the world’s largest open air prison. He added that Israel is continuing its massacre in Gaza with airstrikes after failing to annihilate it by withholding food and medication.

Israelis warned of travel to Turkey over imminent terror threat

Israel’s Counter Terrorism Bureau cites intel showing militant groups intend to strike Israeli, Jewish institutions in the country in the next few days.

Israel’s Counter Terrorism Bureau warned Israeli citizens Tuesday against traveling to Turkey, citing intelligence that terror groups were planning attacks against Israeli or Jewish institutions in the country.

According the warning, Israelis are asked to refrain from travel to Turkey over information of intent to go forward with the attack in next few days.

Last Wednesday, the Turkish daily Hurriyet reported that Mossad warned Turkey that Israeli diplomatic missions in the country could be the target of attacks, quoting a story aired on NTV news, in which it was reported that Israel’s main intelligence agency sent a letter to the National Intelligence Agency saying that the “Iranian Revolutionary Guards-Quds Force” is preparing to attack Israelis in Turkey

According to the report, four individuals have already “entered Turkey from Iran” with weapons and the materials to carry out the alleged attacks on Israeli diplomats. Continue Reading »
