As some Israeli cities demonstrate, all that glitters is not always green

Some ‘Green Cities’ make it on to the good list because of their parks, but the residents’ high standard of living demonstrate they consume a great deal of resources.

Europe did it this summer, and so did Israel.

But just because cities are regularly ranked based on how environmentally friendly they are, that doesn’t mean the chosen cities are always quite as green as they may seem.

Environmental experts say that while some of these cities make it on to the good list because of their parks and public transportation, their residents’ high standard of living means they continue to exploit and consume a great deal of resources and create a lot of waste.

China: Romney’s Pro-Jerusalem Views May Spark War with Regional Arabs

China has refused to challenge Iran & Syria and now goes  to bat for the Regional Arabs

By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

China, which has refused to buck Iran and Syria, now goes to bat for the Arab world and warns that Mitt Romney’s pro-Jerusalem remarks could even “reignite a war between Palestinians and Israelis.”

The presumptive Republican presidential candidate stated in his visit to Israel Sunday and Monday that Jerusalem is the country’s capital, a designation the international community does not accept because of the Arab world’s opposition.

“The U.S. presidential hopeful’s dangerous words should be carefully watched,” wrote the Chinese news agency Xinhua Tuesday. Continue Reading »

Romney: Future Borders will be decided by Israel and PA

In interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Romney says Jerusalem & Ramallah must find a way to negotiation borders; adding issue of settlements will be ‘discussed in private’ between the allies.

By Yitzhak Benhorin

WASHINGTON – GOP’s presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Monday that he supports the two-state solution, in that Israel and the PA should be the ones to decide their future borders, sans external intervention by a third party.

In an interview with CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” taped during Romney’s visit to Israel this week, the republican candidate was asked about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“I’m on foreign soil, and because it’s long been a policy of both political parties to leave politics at the water’s edge, I’m not going to go through specific foreign policy prescription,” he said. Continue Reading »

In a speech in Jerusalem on Sunday evening that followed a day of meetings with Israel’s leaders, Romney said it was a “moving experience to be in Jerusalem,” and described the city as “Israel’s capital.” He suggested that he would move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem if he were elected president. Fire and Rescue Services Commissioner Shahar Ayalon postulated that the massive blaze could have broken out due to arson.

Obama Orders Embassy to Remain in Tel Aviv

Obama for the seventh time exercises the “security” waiver to ignore a Congressional law for the US. embassy to be in Jerusalem.

President Barack Obama for the seventh time has exercised the “security” waiver allowing him to ignore a Congressional law that the U.S. embassy be relocated to Jerusalem.

The 1995 law requires the embassy to be located in the capital unless the president decides that doing so would endanger national security. Every American president has exercised the waiver but no detailed explanation has been offered as to why moving the embassy would endanger U.S. security.

The law states, “The President may suspend such limitations for an additional six-month period at the end of any period during which the suspension is in effect under this subsection if the President determines and reports to Congress in advance of the additional suspension that the additional suspension is necessary to protect the national security interests of the United States.” Continue Reading »

Guardian Downplays Jewish Connection To Temple Mount

The Guardian’s Jerusalem correspondent’s whitewashing of the significance of the Temple Mount to Jews echoes some of the worst propaganda by Palestinians seeking to discredit the notion that Jews have any historical ties to the area.

Jerusalem, as any bog-standard tourist guide will tell you, is revered as holy by adherents of three major faiths – Jews, Christians and Muslims.

Visitors to Israel’s capital are often struck by the sheer religiosity of the place, with the city looming so large in the collective consciousness that some people even come down with ‘Jerusalem Syndrome’ (note: a recognised medical condition) and believe themselves to be the reincarnation of some Biblical figure or other.
