Israel’s PM Netanyahu proposes air-defense against Iranian attacks

Netanyahu’s proposal comes following a series of unpunished Iranian attacks and seizures of foreign oil-tankers, their recent attack on Saudi oil facilities and now Tehran’s accusation that Israel attempted an assassination on the IRGC commender.

In a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed a massive air defense system to defend against Iranian attacks, especially cruise missiles like those used in attacks on a Saudi Arabian oil facility last month, according to KAN.

Last month, cruise missiles and explosive drones were used in an attack on two plants at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s oil industry, including the world’s biggest petroleum processing facility. Continue Reading »

Congress uses ‘war-time’ discretionary funds to pass Israeli missile defense program

Despite White House objections, Congress approved the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act to include an additional $705 million for joint US-Israel missile defense needs, by tapping the Overseas Contingency Operations budget for the aid increase, a fund that was meant for US wartime readiness.

WASHINGTON — Congress appears to have bucked the Trump administration this week by passing hundreds of millions of dollars in missile defense aid for Israel likely using funds historically reserved for current US wartime operations.

WATCH: David’s Sling officially enters service completing country’s multi-layered missile defense program

 

The Israeli Air Force officially declares the David’s Sling missile defense system operational, as tensions rise on the northern border.
• David’s Sling joins Iron Dome and Arrow’s 2 and 3 systems to support Israel’s multi-layered missile defense measures.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) officially inaugurated the David’s Sling missile defense system on Monday. The system was designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and American defense contractor Raytheon.

It is officially operational and functions as a part of Israel’s multi-layered missile defense program.

In this capacity, David’s Sling operates in the layer above the Iron Dome and below the Arrow system.
