UK campuses celebrate ‘Tel Aviv week’

Tour organized by UJS, Tel Aviv municipality and Israeli embassy promotes Tel Aviv as holiday destination; hailed as rousing success

 

Visitors to various campuses across the UK may have been slightly surprised by the beach-side atmosphere last week. It was all due to Tel Aviv week an event organized by the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) together with the Tel Aviv municipality and the Israeli embassy in London.

The tour visited five British campuses, Leeds, Hull, Nottingham, Aston (Birmingham) and Roehampton (London). During the day the Tel Aviv trailer was parked in prime locations on these campuses and gave away promotional free items that reflected Israel and Tel Aviv, including Israeli snacks and information about the city. Police probing reports of group sex on TA beach

Eyewitnesses say half-naked woman who appeared intoxicated engaged in sexual acts with group of men in front of beach-goers

Criminal act or innocent fun? The police on Tuesday launched an investigation into eyewitness reports according to which a number of men had sexual intercourse with a woman on a public beach in Tel Aviv two weeks ago.

The incident, which was revealed in the press only two weeks later, took place on Bugrashov Beach in broad daylight, and was witnessed by many passersby and beach-goers, but police officials say they only received two complaints.

One eyewitness told Ynet that he was certain it was a group of young men who hired the services of a call girl. Continue Reading »

Meretz goes to High Court over TA Shabbat buses

Meretz Councilwoman Zandberg proposed motion in conjunction with Be Free Israel organization, with support of Tel Aviv mayor.

 

Members of left-wing party Meretz petitioned the High Court of Justice on Wednesday morning, asking the court to order the Transport Ministry to allow public transport on Shabbat in Tel Aviv.

In February, the Tel Aviv Municipal Council approved a resolution to ask the Transport Ministry for permission to operate public transport on Shabbat. Meretz Councilwoman Tamar Zandberg proposed the motion in conjunction with the secularist Be Free Israel organization, and Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldaialso supported it.
