Within the framework of his street tour — accompanied by a large police contingent — Sa’ar also met representatives of the south Tel Aviv neighborhood committee and visited small businesses in the area.

Done Deal: Barbra Streisand will perform in Tel Aviv on June 20

Highly acclaimed Jewish singer/actor will wrap up European tour at Tel Aviv’s Bloomfield Stadium.

Streisand also set to sing at President Peres’s 90th birthday party.

People who need Barbra Streisand are apparently the luckiest people in Israel.

Ending weeks of unconfirmed speculation, the iconic songstress/actress/diva has announced that she will perform for the first time ever in the country on June 20 at Bloomfield Stadium in Jaffa.

Accompanied by a 60- piece orchestra, the 70-yearold Streisand will end a select tour of Europe with the show at the stadium which holds 16,000 spectators.

Two days earlier, she is expected to perform privately at the Presidential Conference in Jerusalem in honor of President Shimon Peres’s birthday. Continue Reading »

Dramatic Terror Arrest by Yamam in Tel Aviv

Special Border Police & Shin Bet units rappelled from rooftop to snatch a terror suspect.

Maariv reported Friday about a dramatic arrest operation in central Tel Aviv that netted a terror activist.

Special Yamam police and Shin Bet forces cooperated in the operation.

Intelligence regarding the presence in Tel Aviv of a terror activist reached the Shin Bet in the late evening hours Thursday. Large police forces sealed off central Tel Aviv.

The forces closed in on an apartment on the corner of Tchernichovsky and Rashi streets, near Dizengoff Center. At around midnight, Yamam forces rappelled from the building’s roof with drawn weapons and burst into one of the apartments, arresting the suspect.

Tel Aviv to stop prostitutes’ business cards from cluttering streets

Ahead of Int’l Women’s Day, inspectors & city workers will take part in lecturers on women trafficking and the sex trade.

 

The Tel Aviv Municipality’s enforcement branch will team up with the Task Force on Human Trafficking, to clean up the business cards for sex workers scattered across the city, the municipality stated on Tuesday.

Ahead of International Women’s Day on Friday, the municipality said city enforcement workers will take part in lectures on the trafficking of women and the sex trade in the city, “in order to gain a deep understanding of the problems and importance of this phenomenon.”

Purim’s carnival atmosphere spread out across the country on Sunday, with revelers of all types and ages soaking up the holiday cheer, many bedecked in bright, loud and extravagant costumes.

As in every year, traditional ‘Adloyada’ Purim parades were held the length and breadth of Israel in cities and towns throughout the country, wending their way through town centers and major urban thoroughfares.

Holon’s Ad’deloyada, one of the most renowned, included more than 4,500 participants making merry, including dancers, artists, musicians and other performers from around the country who all marched through the streets of the city.

One person was seriously wounded and another moderately hurt on Saturday evening when an explosion occurred in a car driving on Ben Zvi Road in Tel Aviv, near the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Though an investigation is still in its early stages, experts believe the incident was a criminal assassination attempt. Police have begun scanning the scene for evidence.

Security cameras in Tel Aviv documented a Tel Aviv municipality worker painting handicapped space markings around a vehicle parked legally in the city, resulting in the car being towed shortly afterward, to its owner’s chagrin.

The security camera video was obtained by the vehicle’s angry owner as part of her efforts to fight the fine she was assessed for parking in a handicapped space. The video and story of Tel Aviv resident Hila’s fight against the city went viral in Israel on Tuesday.

A terrorist blew blown up a Dan local bus on Shaul HaMelech street in central Tel Aviv aroun noon. Three people were seriously wounded. No one was killed.

Seventeen people have been evacuated to Icholov Hospital, most of them with lesser injuries. Others are being treated for emotional shock.

Eyewitnesses said that that the terrorist boarded the bus, placed a suspicious package there and then fled. Police said they have caught a suspect, who denies any connection with the attack.. Continue Reading »

New Iron Dome Battery Intercepts Rocket for Tel Aviv

After air raid sirens sound in Tel Aviv & Rishon Lezion at around 4:30pm, new Battery deployed in Tel Aviv area on Saturday makes 1st interception.

For the third time in three days an air raid siren sounded in Tel Aviv. The Iron Dome battery which had been deployed in the region just hours earlier intercepted one rocket fired from Gaza. Another rocket landed in an open area. No injuries were reported.

Hamas‘ military wing, Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, claimed responsibility for the firing of the Fajr 5 missile.

Will Tel Aviv win title of ‘Most Innovative City’?

In a competition testing forward thinking, The Wall Street Journal nominates the city that never sleeps as the Most Innovative City.

Tel Aviv is one of three cities nominated for the title of “Most Innovative City” in a competition run by the Wall Street Journal. The other cities nominated, selected in an online vote, are New York City and Medellin, Colombia.

The competition tests a city’s capacity to adapt and re-imagine itself and the municipality’s ability of forward thinking.

As some Israeli cities demonstrate, all that glitters is not always green

Some ‘Green Cities’ make it on to the good list because of their parks, but the residents’ high standard of living demonstrate they consume a great deal of resources.

 

 

Europe did it this summer, and so did Israel.

But just because cities are regularly ranked based on how environmentally friendly they are, that doesn’t mean the chosen cities are always quite as green as they may seem.

Israelis flock by the thousands to Tel Aviv’s annual Gay Pride Parade

Speaking at the event, attended by thousands of tourists U.S. ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro says: Human rights are gay rights and gay rights are human rights.

Thousands of people participated in Tel Aviv’s 14th Gay Pride Parade on Friday, including many tourists arrived in Israel to attend the annual gay pride week-long events.

The parade got underway in Gan Meir park, following an event which marked the conclusion of the week-long carnival in Israel’s largest city. Among the speakers were top political and municipal officials, including U.S. Ambassador Dan Shapiro.
