On June 15th 2011 the Jerusalem Post published an article about the Palestinian water crisis, written by the head of the Palestinian Water Authority, Dr Shaddad Atilli.

In his article Atilli wrote that Israel’s ‘discriminatory policies’ are to blame for the lack of water in the Palestinian society. He claimed that Israel used the Joint Israeli Palestinian Water Committee (JWC) to veto and to delay Palestinian water projects. He also wrote that Israel illegally exploits 90% of the shared water sources, allocating only 10% for Palestinian use. Continue Reading »

Amid the sprawling olive groves that surround Ein Al Ariq – or Ein HaGvura – outside of Nablus, Jamal Daraghmeh recalled the days of the 1970s, when he and fellow community members used to come to the basin to collect water for their village drinking needs and livestock.

“We [now] have access only after coordination for the olive harvest, once a year,” Daraghmeh, the mayor of nearby village al Luban al Sharqiya, told reporters during a United Nations field tour of the area last week. Continue Reading »

Israel to sell $300M in water-tech to China

Jerusalem, Beijing ink multi-million dollar deal which will see Israel provide innovative water technology to china’s agriculture sector

Israel has recently signed a deal to sell China water technology valued at $300 million for use in the agriculture sector, the Israeli Finance Ministry said in a statement.

The deal was signed by both countries’ finance ministers in Beijing during a visit to China by Israeli Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz.

Israel is a world leader in water technology products and has pioneered drip irrigation that was developed for arid Middle Eastern conditions. No details of the companies or technology involved in the deal were in the statement. Continue Reading »
