Israel’s PM asks Jewish Agency to find resolution on women praying at Western Wall

Israeli police detained 4 women from a liberal Jewish group who approached the holy site in Jerusalem last week, wearing prayer shawls.

“Israel still fails to live up to the ideals upon which it was founded, as a haven for Jews everywhere.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the Jewish Agency to find a solution for non-Orthodox Jewish female groups wishing to pray at one of Judaism’s holiest sites.

Lack of shade makes Western Wall visit unbearable for tourists

Judaism’s holiest site is also one of the most unpleasant places to visit.

It was a beautiful, partially cloudy spring day in Jerusalem on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 25 degrees Celsius in the shade. A perfect day for strolling around nearly any part of the city, with one truly glaring exception: the Western Wall Plaza. The glaring whiteness of the plaza pavement reflected the heat, and the complete absence of trees, buildings and pergolas ensured that there was not a speck of shade. The result is an almost unbearable experience for worshipers and tourists who congregate at the Judaism’s holiest site.

Arab Axe Attack on Jew in Old City

An Arab terrorist attacked a Jew with an axe in  the area of the Damascus Gate Monday morning. The victim suffered light wounds.

Police have been deployed in a massive manhunt for the Arab. The wounded man is being treated at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. He reportedly was returning from morning prayers at the Western Wall.

Attacks on Jews have escalated in the past several months since the Palestinian Authority decided to bury the “diplomatic process” and then failed in its bid to win international recognition from the United Nations.

Last week, Arabs hurled rocks at Jews travelling through an Arab area to the Western Wall. Continue Reading »

When the swifts come back to Jerusalem’s Western Wall this week there will be rejoicing as bird watchers and the religious welcome them home to Judaism’s most sacred site.

The common swift, which spends is entire life flying or sitting its nest, returns from wintering in South Africa to nest between the cracks in the ancient wall. For over 2,000 years, the crevices between the wall’s massive limestone blocks have served as the perfect nesting location for the swift (Apus apus). Continue Reading »
