Speaking to locals during a tour, the Iranian leader said that regional countries do not need to purchase arms in order to “fight the Zionist regime of Israel.”

“If the rulers are wise enough, they will not sell their petrol to pay 60 billion dollars to others for arms,” Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the IRNA news agency.

Turning his attention to Western states, which he referred to as imperial powers, the Iranian leader characterized them as “bad-tempered, because of their failure to use the blessing of wisdom and thought,” IRNA said.

Had Western powers been wiser, they would treat other nations with “friendship and respect” instead of resorting to aggression against them, he said.

Ahmadinejad specifically blasted the United States over its military deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan, charging that countless civilians have been killed by US troops in the region.

In march, Iran’s president said that Israel is a cancerous tumor that is being paid by the West to “continue the criminal occupation of Palestinian territories.”

“The Zionist regime is like a malignant cancerous cell, and even one or two cells are enough to infect the whole body,” Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying at the time.
