Exclusive rights to air the World Cup in that country has been granted to a Qatari company ‘Sana’ and is out of the financial reach of many Lebanese citizens, who have been tuning in to Israeli broadcasts to watch the games, Lebanese media reported on Thursday.

In the rural villages of Lebanon’s south, people are unable to reach cafes or hotel lobbies which air the games to patrons in the cities for free. Instead, Lebanon’s Al-Nahar newspaper reported, “Israeli commentators’ voices in Hebrew can be heard everywhere in south Lebanon; in people’s houses, balconies and courtyards because the country has failed to allocate money to enable them to watch the games.”

The newspaper called the phenomenon a “great shame.”

Lebanese media has also reported that in light of spectators’ sorrows, Lebanese public broadcast network Tele Liban will begin to air the World Cup for free.
