El Al unveils Torah scroll that will accompany Israel’s political leaders on future int’l flights.
President Shimon Peres, PM Netanyahu, along with the heads of security services lent a hand in inscribing the scroll.
In honor of the Shavuot holiday this week, when Jews worldwide celebrate God’s giving of the Torah to the Jewish people on Mount Sinai, Israeli airline El Al presented a special Torah that will accompany Israel’s leaders on their trips with the airline.
Hundreds of dignitaries, among them Israel Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky, attended a ceremony on Monday marking the completion of the carrier’s new Torah scroll.
Israel’s national airline dedicated the scroll, calling it “the El Al Torah for the unity of Israel.”
El Al CEO Eliezer Shkedi, who initiated the project, said the Torah scroll “was written by Jews from around the globe.” It was written over the course of three years, and President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the heads of Israeli security services all lent a hand in inscribing the scroll, Judaism’s holiest manuscript.
The Torah will accompany the nation’s leaders on international flights.
