The army identified the terrorist with a group of Palestinian Arabs attempting to jump the fence near the Oranit checkpoint.

The soldiers called out for the suspects to stop, but they ignored the calls, leading the soldiers to open fire.

Officials say the suspect was hit and was lightly wounded in the arm and stomach. He was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital, an Israeli medical center located in Petach Tikva.

The incident occurred in between Shaare Tikvah and Beit Amin, the same spot where IDF soldier Tomer Hazan was kidnapped in September by a co-worker.

Sergeant Tomer Hazan, 20, of Bat Yam, was abducted and murdered in Samaria by Nadal Amar, who worked with Hazan in a Bat Yam restaurant.

The motive for the murder was the terrorist’s plan to trade the body of his victim for the freedom of his brother, a Fatah terrorist who has been in jail in Israel for the last ten years.
