The IDF stated that two Palestinians were injured in the incident. According to Palestinian sources the men were moderately wounded.

The incident came after a rocket was fired from Gaza into southern Israel early on Thursday morning, landing in the Ashkelon Coast Council area.

No injuries or damage were reported in the attack.

Beginning on Sunday, Israel intends to allow steel and cement for building projects into Gaza for the first time since 2007.

The move follows a massive crackdown by the Egyptian military on the smuggling from Egypt via the tunnels near Rafah, including construction material.

In 2007, after Hamas took control of Gaza in a violent coup, Israel banned the entry of building material into the Strip, except in limited quantities for international projects, fearing the materials posed a security risk.
