Two days after televised campaign ads began being aired on Israeli television, the Likud-Yisrael Beytenu coalition’s campaign is kicking into a higher gear. The star of Likud-Beytenu’s next ads will be outgoing Communications and Welfare Minister Moshe Kahlon, who announced in October that he would be taking time out from political life and who is not running in the Jan. 22 Knesset election.

On Wednesday, Kahlon was filmed in an ad about the reforms he instituted in the cellular communications market that led to dramatic price decreases.

Future Likud-Beytenu ads will feature other government ministers who will present their achievements from the past term.

The head of the Likud-Beytenu campaign, Environmental Protection Minister Gilad Erdan, told Israel Hayom that the ads “show what everybody already knows. The only leader today who can deal with the threats we are facing in our neighborhood and in the international arena is Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”

“Likud-Beytenu’s election PR operates on two tracks,” Erdan said. “[The first is] government achievements, which you barely hear about in the media, like the socio-economic issue, the fence on the southern border and the struggle against infiltrators. The second track consists of speeches given by Netanyahu around the world, at the U.N and Congress, which portray him as the only leader suited to lead the country.”

Meanwhile, a day after announcing that he would be stepping down as the head of the Yesha Council, Dani Dayan met with Netanyahu on Wednesday.

“We see eye to eye on the dangers,” Netanyahu said of Dayan. “[Palestinian Authority President] Mahmoud Abbas is today in Cairo while the head of Hamas is there and they are exploring the possibility of unity. We therefore know that any territory that we vacate will be seized by Hamas and Iran. We will not let that happen.”
