Fatah official Jibril Rajoub raised the possibility that Israel should be “removed” if it fails to make peace with the Palestinians, in an interview to i24News Wednesday,

“Peace is not a Palestinian interest, it’s an international interest, and the interest of the world is to put an end to this struggle. I think it’s also an Israeli interest – Israelis should decide whether they are part of the Middle East or an alien body. If Israel is an alien body it should be removed,” he said.

Rajoub criticized the Hamas movement for allying itself with Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, saying the Gaza-based terrorist groups change their strategic tack.

“Hamas has to take a long hard look at itself,” he said. “They are responsible for the crisis they are going through, they lost their compass. They have placed to great a weight on their relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood: they should work on untying that connection. They should act from the vantage point of being a Palestinian liberation movement.”

In June, Rajoub was blocked from participating in an event sponsored by the Meretz party. Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon explaine dthe decision thus:

“I decided to prevent Jibril Rajoub from entering the state of Israel, because despite the fact that in the Israeli press, he sometimes appears like an almost likeable character – in actual fact, this is a person who has been inciting in a very serious manner against the state of Israel and its citizens lately; attacking the prime minister with harsh words that cannot be repeated; and acting to delegitimize Israel in sports institutions.

“I cannot accept a situation in which a person spreads words of demonization and hatred against us, like the worst of inciters, and at the same time asks to enter the state of Israel as if nothing happened. You can’t grasp the stick at both ends.”
