A Belgian judge ruled on Dec. 21, that because yeshivas are subsidized by the Flemish community, Benoth Jerusalem must admit the boys or face a $2,600 penalty per child for each day the boys are not permitted to attend, according to the Gazet van Anwerpen, a local paper. Continue Reading »

Egypt in Political Uproar Over a 5 Minutes Interview With an Israeli

An interview with an Israeli reporter on common problems has led for calls of ministerial resignation in Egypt

Egypt was in an uproar Thursday, with Egyptians and officials demanding that the country’s communications minister resign his post, after an Israeli reporter was interviewed on Egypt’s Nile TV. The reporter, from Israel Radio’s Arabic service, was discussing the problem of Sinai terrorism, a problem common to Israel and Egypt.

According to reports in the Egyptian media Thursday, the Israeli reporter, Ayal Alima, spoke to the host of a news magazine program on Nile TV, and called on both the IDF and Egyptian army to derive lessons from the attack in Sinai earlier with week, in which 17 Egyptian soldiers were killed. In an odd twist to the decades-old Israeli-Palestinian saga, a former IDF soldier has embarked on a new fight: He wants to renounce his Israeli citizenship and move to a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank.

Andre Pshenichnikov, a 23-year-old Jewish immigrant from Tajikistan, was recently detained by Israeli police for residing illegally in the Deheishe Refugee Camp near Bethlehem. There he told police that he wants to break all ties with Israel, give up his Israeli citizenship and obtain a Palestinian one instead. Continue Reading »
