Asia beats US as Israel’s #1 export destination for 2014

Exports to Asia in 2013, nearly equaled those to the United States for the 1st time, coming within 0.6% points as a share of Israel’s total exports.

 

 
The Asian region will overtake the US as Israel’s second biggest export destination this year, the Economy Ministry said.

The region is expected to come in as Israel’s second-largest trade partner for 2014 behind the European Union, shifting the United States into third place, according to the ministry’s Foreign Trade Authority.

Israel declines requests of being world’s medical ‘pot dealer’

 


Although Israel has the climate & know-how to be the major exporter of medical marijuana, it doesn’t want to.

 

The Czech Health Ministry would like to import medical marijuana from Israel, but the government has not arranged for local growers to export the drug.

Visiting here last month, Czech Health Minister Svatopluk Nemecek dropped by a medical marijuana operation on moshav Ein Irron. The logistic center there is operated by Bazelet — the marijuana division of the Barak Group, a medical supplier that serves five of the eight authorized growers of medical marijuana in Israel.

Who does Israel export sophisticated weaponry to? The Defense Ministry is silent

Although, most of the countries are already known, Jerusalem refuses to disclose a detailed list of recipients to avoid a morel debate over selling arms to autocratic regimes.

 

 

The Defense Ministry objects to any transparency or openness about Israeli arms sales, despite the serious failures that have recently been revealed in its export control department, as reported in Haaretz by Gili Cohen, and the recent forced resignation of department head Meir Shalit. The ministry almost always refrains from launching criminal investigations of exporters who break the law, preferring to settle the cases with administrative fines – or in other words, behind closed doors in the Defense Ministry, without anything being revealed. 2012 best year for Israel’s arms exports

Just weeks after serious budget cuts, Defense Ministry reveals Israel’s arms export totaled $7.4 billion for 2012

Israel‘s export of defense-related products registered an all time record in 2012 totaling $7.4 billion, compared to $5.8 billion in 2011, according to Defense Ministry data.

The main export destinations were markets in Asia and the Pacific Ocean. The two most lucrative deals were the sale of a satellite and advanced spy planes to Italy.

Shmaya Avieli, head of the Foreign Defense Assistance and Defense Export Department estimated that export in 2013 will total some $4.3 billion adding that Israel is considering new deals with Turkey. Continue Reading »
