Italy Sets Guidelines to Prohibit anti-Semitic Chants at Football Matches

The guidelines were issued in the wake of two cases of anti-Semitic & racist behavior of fans in Hungary & Bulgaria that resulted in fines & sanctions by FIFA.

New guidelines issued by the Italian Interior Ministry govern how police may halt or interrupt a soccer match because of racist or anti-Semitic behavior by fans or on the pitch.

The guidelines were issued following a meeting this week of the Ministry’s watchdog commission on sporting events that dealt with the “despicable phenomenon of racism” noted recently at some matches.

Hungary & Bulgaria’s soccer teams fined for fans’ anti-Semitism

FIFA strongly condemns all forms of racism in football, and any form of discrimination will not be tolerated and will receive a strong response by the relevant FIFA authorities.

According to Article 67 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the home association is liable for the improper conduct among spectators, regardless of the question of culpable conduct.

FIFA cries foul over Israel’s red card of ex-terrorist turned sports head

 

FIFA, football’s global body asks Israel Football Association to help secure Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub’s “freedom of movement”.

Israeli defense official explains that Rajoub’s status was changed because he “incited to violence against Israel.”

The Federation of International Football Associations, the Zurich-based global soccer governing body, is asking Israel to return VIP status to Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub and allow him to enter Israel without security checks.

FIFA said Wednesday that it had asked the Israeli Football Association to help secure Rajoub’s “freedom of movement.”

FIFA pledges help to rebuild Gaza stadium (with or without rocket-launchers?)

Soccer’s world governing body, FIFA, is to pay for rebuilding Palestine Stadium partially destroyed from IDF airstrikes during Operation Pillar of Defense.

Gaza stadium was used to fire rockets at Israeli civilians.

FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke has pledged that soccer’s world governing body will help rebuild the Palestine Stadium in Gaza City, after it was partially destroyed in Israeli air strikes.

“We see it our mandate to rebuild football infrastructure which has been destroyed,” Valcke was quoted as saying on fifa.com. “We will also rebuild the stadium in Gaza, which has been destroyed.

Soccer brings people together and we will support any re-construction necessary when football infrastructure is destroyed through disasters,” added Valcke, who is in Brazil for the draw of the Confederations Cup. Continue Reading »
