Netanyahu off to China, 2 hours late due to Syrian unrest

Despite tensions on northern border, visit to China continues as planned. On agenda: Trade relations & far more serious sanctions on Iran.

Even as things heat up in the north, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took off for China, with a slight two hour delay, due to the situation on the Syrian front. The main issues scheduled for discussion during the prime minister’s China meetings include economics and Iran.

Germany &Turkey nab Iranian nuke smugglers

 

Turkish newspaper reports that security forces both in Germany and Turkey apprehended Iranians who smuggled nuclear materials from India & Germany to Iranian facility in Arak

Security forces in Germany and Turkey apprehended smugglers who are suspected of moving nuclear materials purchased in India and Germany to a nuclear facility in the Iranian city of Arak, Turkish newspaper Haberturk reported.

The raid was carried out in Germany and in Istanbul simultaneously. In Istanbul, an Iranian-born Turkish citizen was detained for questioning and forces seized many documents relating to the smuggling. Continue Reading »

US President Barack Obama plans to propose to Iran that they conduct direct negotiations over the Islamic Republic nuclear program, Channel 10 reported Tuesday night citing a senior US official.

According to the official, the decision did not involve any coordination or consultation with Israel.

According to the report, the US is likely to give negotiations a time-frame of four to five months.

Western diplomats believe Israel has been leaking sensitive information about Iran’s nuclear program in a bid to rally the international community to action, The Guardian reported Monday.

The report came as Israel renewed calls against the Iranian program, as Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Monday the problem would have to be confronted in 2013.

According to the Guardian report, Western diplomats suspect the Israeli moves have backfired, and have instead jeopardized the International Atomic Energy Agency’s investigation into the Iranian nuclear program.
