Two female Israeli diplomats will soon begin their mission in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, a Muslim state in central Asia.

The appointment marks two historic firsts:
- Carmela Shamir will become the first female Israeli ambassador to a Muslim state;
- With her deputy, Hagit Muallem, also being a woman, the mission to Tashkent will become the first Israeli embassy in a Muslim state completely in female hands.
