9th Century Jewish Prayer Book Unveiled

 

A Jewish parchment that has been dated by scientists to the 9th century may be the oldest existing prayer book . The book offers a crucial tie between modern Jewish practice & Biblical times.

A 1,200-year-old parchment Jewish prayer book that is billed as the oldest in existence was introduced Sept. 27 by a prominent private collector of Biblical artifacts.

Report: Jewish graves destroyed in Syria by Al-Qaida-linked terrorists

 

According to Fars news agency & other Iranian media outlets, Al-Nursa Front has reportedly demolished ancient Jewish mausoleums in Syria’s city of Aleppo.

Al-Qaida-linked terrorists have allegedly demolished several ancient Jewish mausoleums in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, Iranian media reported Tuesday.

The graves were located in the historical town of Tadif, according to the semi-official Iranian Fars news agency and other Iranian news outlets.

The terrorists reportedly belong to the al-Qaida-backed al-Nusra Front.

A tomb said to be that of Ezra the Scribe is located in the town. Continue Reading »

The recently discovered items were presented to the public on Sunday. They had been hidden at what is now the new cultural center of Dambach-la-Ville, a town of 2,000 in eastern France, the L’Alsace daily reported Saturday.

Metropolitan Museum of Art of NY & Israel Museum jointly buy Hebrew manuscript

15th-century handwritten copy of Mishneh Torah to be shared by the Israel Museum & the Metropolitan Museum of Art on a rotating basis.

 

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan and The Israel Museum have jointly purchased a 15th century illuminated Hebrew manuscript.

Sotheby’s announced Monday that the two institutions have acquired The Mishneh Torah from the Michael and Judy Steinhardt Judaica Collection. It was about to be put up for auction in New York City. Continue Reading »

Sotheby’s to conduct a public auction of more than 500 manuscripts, textiles & art collected by philanthropist & former Wall Street tycoon Michael Steinhardt. His collection is estimated to net approximately $11 million at the April 29th auction.

Report: Iraq rejects a US offer to restore half of its seized Jewish Archive

Iraq has rejected an American offer  to return half of the Iraqi Jewish Archive previously transferred from Baghdad to the US

Iraq rejected an offer made by the United States to bring back half of the Iraqi Jewish Archive previously transferred from Baghdad to the US after 2003, insisting that Iraq should restore the whole Archive, an Iraqi official newspaper reported on Sunday.

“The (Tourism and Antiquities) minister Lewa’ Smeisim refused an American offer to give back half of the Jewish Archive to Iraq, on condition that Iraq will concede its right of possessing the remaining half,” the state-run al-Sabah newspaper quoted Smeisim’s chief media office Hakim al-Shammari as saying.
