Palestinian FM ignores European Parliament queries on Israeli captives

Reminding the Palestinian Foreign Minister of the European Parliament’s resolution of 2018 that called for the safe return of all held Israelis, MEP Charlie Weimers’ questions were sidestepped, as the FM called on all EU member states to support the Palestinians against Trump’s “Peace to Prosperity” peace deal.

Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki declined to answer what the PA is doing to bring about the release of the four Israeli captives in Gaza, during remarks to the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday.

MEP Charlie Weimers, of the European Conservatives and Reformists group, pointed out that the European Parliament passed a resolution in 2018 that called for the safe return of Israelis Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed and the remains of IDF soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, held by Hamas. ICC declines Palestinian request for ‘immediate investigation’ of Israel

Shortly after the ICC Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda met Tuesday with PA Foreign Minister Riad al-Maliki, who submitted a request to investigate Israel over the Gaza deaths, a decision to not pursue their request was issued.

The Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague refused the Palestinian Authority’s request to open an immediate investigation against Israel over the deaths of 62 rioters during violent protests on the Gaza border last month.

Palestinian FM seeks war crimes probe at the ICC

The Palestinian foreign minister is scheduled to meet with the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda on Tuesday morning, to investigate alleged crimes committed in the Palestinian territories in Gaza by the Israel Defense Forces.

Palestinian foreign minister Riyad al-Maliki is to arrive in The Netherlands later Monday ahead of talks with the chief prosecutor of the world’s only permanent war crimes court.

Maliki will meet with prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on Tuesday morning just over a week after 62 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire as they protested the US decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city of Jerusalem. Continue Reading »

Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Sunday asked the heads of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to host emergency meetings over US President Donald Trump possibly recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Over the weekend, a number of US media outlets reported that Trump is going to deliver a speech on Wednesday, in which he will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Continue Reading »
