Israel TV-2 reports Global Jihad terrorist has been arrested by Indian authorities. India has Heightened security alert around possible Jewish targets.
Channel 2‘s website says that Indian security forces have arrested a Global Jihad terrorist who they believe planned to carry out terror attacks against Jewish targets in India. The investigation revealed that he is part of a cell that planned terror attacks in Mumbai and other locations. Chabad houses were reportedly on the list of planned targets.
The report has not been corroborated by other news sources.
According to the report, there are terror alerts regarding two possible targets on the island of Goa, which is very popular with Israelis, especially in the October “party season”: a beach town named Anjuna and a nearby resort village named Arambul. There are Chabad houses in both locations.
The report says that Indian Mujahedeen terror organization founder Yasin Bhatkal told interrogators that his group is planning to abduct Jews and trade them for jailed terrorists.
On Wednesday it was reported that the Jewish community in Mumbai is on alert in the wake of a terror threat exposed by Bhatkal’s interrogation. The Hindustan Times reported that a prominent body that represents the Jewish community in the city has sent out advisories to all synagogues and members to be on alert, especially during the festive season.
Mumbai was the site of a horrific terror attack in 2008, which included the murder of nine people at the local Chabad House.
