Its spokeswoman Sarit Michaeli said a field worker at the Ramallah hospital where Ramahi was taken reported from doctors there that he had been shot in the back.

The IDF launched an investigation after receiving a Palestinian report via the civil administration about the shooting of a teenager.

“During activity initiated by the IDF near the Jalazone refugee camp, a report was received about a Palestinian teenager who was shot and killed. The circumstances of the incident are being checked,” the IDF Spokesman’s Office said.

The IDF Central Command is gathering information on what exactly occurred, and an army source said Saturday that details were still sketchy.

According to initial information that was made available to the army, a soldier fired shots in the air, possibly during a clash with Palestinians, but it remains unclear what occurred afterward.

Michaeli said she had no other details about the circumstances of teenager’s death.

A photograph of Ramahi sitting on a sofa wearing a blue sweater was immediately posted on twitter by Palestinian activists, along with one of him in the hospital.

According to Reuters two boys, who said they were friends of Ramahi and were with him when he was killed, said they were in an area adjacent to a settlement when soldiers shot at them.
