“The industrial complex in Jericho was built for the betterment of the Palestinian economy. The industrial sector will provide jobs to thousands of workers and is part of a series of projects whose goal is to aid the Palestinian economy and promote regional cooperation,” Regional Development Minister Silvan Shalom said.
Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida, Palestinian Authority Interior Minister Said Abu-Ali and Jordanian Interior Minister Hussein Majali attended the event. Shalom called the meeting of the four figures “historic” and of “the utmost importance. This is the first public meeting with the Jordanian and Palestinian interior minsters under Japanese arbitration. I believe that it is always better to talk than to fight.”
Shalom stated during the event that peace talks with the Palestinians will likely begin on Tuesday in Washington.
