According to sources, Portman’s itinerary indicates that she will be landing in Israel this coming September.
The relationship between Portman and Oz began several years ago when the former expressed interest in directing a film based on the book. Oz agreed to having his work adapted for the big screen and signed off on the project, but demanded final approval before filming began.
According to said sources, Portman recently submitted the screenplay, on which she worked with two screenwriters, to Oz for approval. Oz reportedly gave Portman his blessing and the project is now underway.
“A Tale of Love of Darkness” is considered one of the most successful novels in Israeli literature, selling more than 100,000 copies domestically and more than 1.3 million abroad.
The book describes Oz’s childhood and young adulthood in Mandatory Palestine and the state’s early years.
It has not yet been decided whether the film will be in Hebrew or English.
