South Africa considers eliminating dual citizenship status to halt Jews’ IDF enlistment

 

The African National Congress, South Africa’s ruling party is also discussing limitations on its private sector’s ties with Israel, not just stopping its citizens from holding Israeli citizenship.

The ruling African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa is reported to be reviewing the country’s dual citizenship policy in a bid to stop citizens from joining the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The local Sunday Times newspaper is also reporting that the government is also hoping to crackdown on private sector ties with Israel.

S. Africa’s ruling party supports boycott campaign against Israel

South Africa’s ruling party, the ANC passes resolutions endorsing Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions campaign to “pressure Israel.”

South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC), endorsed the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel on Thursday.

Adopted a series of resolutions blasting the Jewish state at its 53rd National Conference, the ANC adopted policies urging South Africans to support any Palestinian campaigns that “pressure Israel to end its violations of international law, respect Palestinian human rights and engage in fair negotiations for a just peace.”

Another resolution affirmed that “The ANC is unequivocal in its support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination, and unapologetic in its view that the Palestinians are the victims and the oppressed in the conflict with Israel.”
