China to Begin 3 Flights a Week From Beijing to Israel’s Ben Gurion Int’l Airport

 

Israel’s ambassador convinced Hainan Airlines, China’s largest private airline, that the Israel-China flights will translate into financial gains from the increase in Chinese/Israeli tourism.

Hainan Airlines, the largest private flight company in China, announced Friday morning the establishment of its first direct flights to and from Israel.

The announcement came after a long string of meetings between embassy officials including Israel’s Ambassador to China Matan Vilnai who convinced the airline’s president of the financial benefits of having flights between the two countries.

The flights are due to begin on April 28 and will take place three times a week on Sundays Tuesdays and Thursdays, the days El Al doesn’t fly to Beijing. Continue Reading »

Israeli Wins Silver at World Athletics Championships

Fourteen years after Israel’s last medal at the World Athletics Championships, Hanna Knyazyeva-Minenko has won the silver medal in the triple-jump. She also broke the national record, achieving a jump of 14.78 meters.

Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen comfortably retained her world title at the games in Beijing, stretching her winning streak to 29 competitions and achieving a best of 14.90 meters for the gold medal. Olympic champion Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan took the bronze.

This is Israel’s third ever medal at the championships, with previous awards going to pole-vaulter Alex Averbukh, who won bronze in 1999 and silver in 2001. Continue Reading »

Forget going for the Olympic ‘gold’, Israel will go for Beijing ‘green’ in 2013

Students & researchers from 20 countries will submit their entries in the Solar Decathlon China competition set to take place in August, 2013 • The Israeli team has developed a green house that generates more electricity than it uses.

An Israeli team will submit an entry for the prestigious Solar Decathlon China competition scheduled for August 2013. The competition will include academic teams from 20 countries who will compete for the title of champion of ecological construction. The Israeli team, including members from Tel Aviv University, Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, Neri Bloomfield School of Design and Education, and the College of Management Academic Studies, will present an innovative ecological (“green”) house that will generate more electricity than it needs to function.
