Report: Facebook/YouTube Trojan Horse Virus Hit Israel in November

An IT security company reports a Trojan horse viruses on YouTube & Facebook were among the top threats to Israeli computer users last November.

The ESET company has revealed the top three threats to Israeli computer-users for the month of November. All three are viruses that have been spread primarily on Facebook and YouTube.

The top ranked threat was the JS/FBOOK virus, a Trojan horse virus spread over links on YouTube and Facebook. The virus is spread via links on popular sites that lead to websites that spread the virus. Continue Reading »

Israel Establishes Dual Cyber Security Program

Israel is creating dual cyber security program to promote research & development, serving both civilian & defense needs.

Israel will create a dual cyber security program to promote research and development to serve both civilian and defense goals, the PMO says.

The government is to create a dual cyber security program to promote research development that will serve both civilian and defense goals, the Prime Minister’s Office announced Wednesday.

The project, to be named MASAD, will be a joint effort of the Israel National Cyber Bureau and Ministry of Defense Directorate for Research and Development.

The program is intended “to strengthen and advance Israel’s capabilities in cyberspace, turn it into a leading country in cyber technology and thereby serve as a new growth engine for the Israeli economy,” the PMO said in a statement. Continue Reading »

The ‘Mahdi’ virus recorded & stole data from security infrastructure

The computer virus with Persian words in its programing code, infected Israeli computers by turning on recording devices and steal files.

A new computer virus with Persian words in its programing code infected sensitive computers across the Middle East, including Israel, and gathered information on critical national security infrastructure, an Israeli security expert who helped uncover the virus told The Jerusalem Post Wednesday.

The Trojan horse has been dubbed “Mahdi” after the Shi’ite Iranian messiah-like figure, since the programmers appear to have used a key folder with that name and also included a text file named mahdi.txt
