Attorney Islam Abu Ziad, 35, a resident of east Jerusalem, was planning to fly to a conference in Holland a few weeks ago, but he did not make the flight.

NGO claims El Al prevents its flight attendants from voting

The NGO, Movement of Quality Government complains to Election Panel that Israeli El Al workers were given shifts on Election Day that prevents them from voting.

 

Many El Al flight attendants will not be able to exercise their right to vote, according to a complaint submitted by the Movement for Quality Government to the Central Election Committee on Thursday.

El Al Israel Airlines reported strong third quarter financial results on Tuesday.

The airline’s Q3 revenues amounted to $605.7 million, as in the corresponding quarter.

Passenger revenue grew by 3.6%, mainly due to a gain in yield per revenue passenger kilometer offset by the depreciation of the euro against the dollar.

Cargo revenues dropped 16.5% to $43.7 million as compared with $52.3 million in the corresponding quarter, presumably as a result of reduced quantity of ton to kilometers. Continue Reading »

An Israeli El Al pilot was detained at New York‘s Kennedy Airport for trying to bring a retractable baton onto a flight, the New York Post reported Monday.

According to the report, the pilot was headed to his flight Saturday, when security at Terminal 4 spotted the weapon stashed in his luggage, JKF officials said.

Following airport protocol, he was arrested by Port Authority police and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, which is a misdemeanor. Continue Reading »

An El Al plane flying from London to Tel Aviv was forced to turn back to Heathrow Airport Wednesday night, after one of its engines failed. All 390 passengers on board Fight 318 were safe, and they were transferred to another plane. Passengers were forced to remain on the ground while arrangements were made for an alternative flight, and many of the passengers will not be arriving until mid-afternoon Thursday.

One of the two companies would specialize in premium long-haul flights to destinations such as the U.S. and the Far East, while the second would compete against low-cost airlines on European routes.

El Al Israel Airlines is considering splitting into two companies as part of a new strategic plan – a low-cost carrier and a premium carrier.

Indeed, the airline needs efficiency measures and might face new competition due to the open-skies agreement that Israel signed with the European Union.

One of the two companies would specialize in premium long-haul flights to destinations such as the United States and the Far East, while the second would compete against low-cost airlines on European routes.
