Despite ongoing rocket attacks by Gaza-based terrorists at southern Israel, Israel will allow fuel donated by Qatar to be pumped into Gaza via an Israeli crossing starting on Sunday.

The information was disclosed by a Palestinian Authority official who spoke to the Bethlehem-based Ma’an news agency on Thursday.

Delivery of Qatari fuel began in July, Ma’an reported, but was cut off after a border attack on Egyptian officers on August 5.

The official, Nazmi Muhanna, told the news agency that fuel supplies will resume Sunday after delivery from Egypt and through the Israeli Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza. Continue Reading »

Israeli Scientists Try to Create ‘Green’ Car Fuel

Israeli scientists are working on creating “green” fuel for cars from greenhouse gas emissions.

By Chana Ya’ar

The project makes use of technology developed by Professor Jacob Karni, head of the Weizmann Institute of Science Energy Center in the department of environmental sciences of energy research. Karni is also a supervisor for the institute’s solar program.

Together with Dr. Avner Rothschild from the Technion in Haifa, Karni received a $200,000 grant in 2010 to carry out the research from the Israel Strategic Alternative Energy Foundation, based in Silicon Valley.

The technology uses concentrated solar energy to divide the two oxygen molecules in carbon dioxide, thereby creating oxygen and carbon monoxide. Continue Reading »

Israeli technology turns greenhouse gas into fuel

Technology developed by head of the Weizmann Institute of Science’s Energy Center creates mixture that can be used for car fuel.

A new Israeli solar Technology is able to transform greenhouse gas emissions from the dirtiest of pollutants into a useable fuel for automobiles.Israeli startup NewCO2Fuels Ltd., in partnership with Australian firm Greenearth Energy Ltd., has acquired the license for a technology developed by Prof. Jacob Karni, head of the Weizmann Institute of Science’s Energy Center in the department of environmental sciences and energy research, as well as supervisor for the institute’s solar program.

The innovation uses concentrated solar energy to dissociate carbon dioxideinto carbon monoxide and oxygen, as well as water into hydrogen and oxygen, allowing for the synthesis of the carbon monoxide and hydrogen into a gaseous hydrocarbon mixture called Syngas.

Landau: Natural gas for cars can free us from oil

Energy and water minister says Israeli natural gas discoveries open window to fight “addiction to black gold.”

Rather than continuing to heavily pollute the air and fund Arab governments by using fuel oil, more Israelis will soon be able to turn to natural gas to power their automobiles, the Energy and Water Ministry said on Monday.

Egypt Cracking Down on Hamas’ Black Market Fuel

Egyptian security forces in northern Sinai are seizing black market fuel shipments headed for Gaza after deal to sell fuel to PA

Egyptian security forces seized four vehicles transporting unlicensed fuel in the northern Sinai over the weekend.

Security officials said the vehicles were carrying 1,640 liters of fuel in 82 tanks for sale on the black market. A driver was detained for investigation, they added.

Last week, security forces confiscated a truck in the Sinai carrying 10 thousand liters of fuel headed to tunnels under the border with Gaza Strip.

Egypt moved in February to shut down fuel deliveries to Gaza via the tunnel smuggling network developed by Hamas – sparking a fuel shortage that caused widespread blackouts. Continue Reading »

Israeli, Egyptian officials in secret talks on gas deal crisis

Behind the scenes, a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem was dispatched to Cairo to discuss the disputed gas contract, and reportedly returned several hours later.

Officially, the Israeli government has tried to minimize the diplomatic importance of last Sunday’s announcement by Egypt’s state-owned natural gas company that it was canceling its contract to Israel. Behind the scenes, however, the reality was somewhat different, belying the government’s stance that the matter was simply a commercial dispute.

A day after last week’s unilateral announcement by EGAS, a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem was dispatched to Cairo.

Report: Hamas holds dozens of drivers in Gaza power crisis

Dozens of taxi drivers apprehended for allegedly spreading ‘rumors’ about the territory’s worst power crisis in years, officials say.

Police in Hamas-ruled Gaza have detained dozens of taxi drivers for allegedly spreading “rumors” about the territory’s worst power crisis in years, officials said Monday.

The detentions, which began over the weekend, signaled that the Islamic
militant Hamas is increasingly concerned about the political fallout from
crippling shortages of fuel and electricity.

Authorities did not explain what got the drivers in trouble, beyond saying
the “rumors” had to do with the energy crisis.

However, residents say there’s growing talk among Gazans that Hamas is
keeping separate supplies of fuel for its government and loyalists, a claim
Hamas denies.
