Historic: Israel’s Artem Dolgopyat on top of podium with Olympic gold in Tokyo

Israel’s gymnast Artem Dolgopyat wins Olympic gold in artistic gymnastics in the men’s floor exercise in Tokyo, the 2nd Olympic gold medal win in the Jewish state’s history.

Artistic gymnast Artem Dolgopyat made history on Sunday, winning Israel’s first Olympic gold medal in artistic gymnastics in the men’s floor exercise in the Tokyo Games.

This is only the second Olympic gold medal in the Jewish state’s history. The first was scored by windsurfer Gal Friedman in the 2004 Athens Games.

With this, Israel has so far won three medals in Tokyo – a bronze in taekwondo and a bronze for the mixed team in judo. Continue Reading »

Israeli kickboxer Nili Block, wins Kickboxing World Championships

 

The 20yr-old Israeli has impressed everyone watching her throughout the championship, even beating a former 6-time world champ in the semi-finals.

Israeli kickboxer Nili Block won the Kickboxing World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on Saturday, after defeating her Croatian opponent in the finals of the women’s under 60kg category.

Block’s coach, Beny Cogan, told Ynet, “It was a tough fight to the end; Nili lead on points and kept the advantage even though the Croatian pressured her.”

Archaeologists Uncover Gold Treasure Near Herzliya

One of the largest gold treasures ever to be discovered in Israel was uncovered last week at an archaeological dig near Herzliya.

One of the largest gold treasures ever to be discovered in Israel was uncovered last week at an archaeological dig near Herzliya.

The treasure, more than 100 gold pieces and weighing approximately 400 grams (nearly one pound), is estimated at a worth of more than $100,000.

The coins were found hidden in a partly broken pottery vessel at the Appollonia National Park, where archaeologists say the former Crusader town of Apollonia-Arsuf once thrived. The dig is being carried out under the joint auspices of Tel Aviv University and the Nature and Parks Authority.
